WSMI: Organization & Staffing

The Washington State Methamphetamine Initiative (WSMI) is a coalition established to coordinate the systems involved, to include law enforcement, treatment and prevention programs, mobilization, and ecology, towards the common goal of abating the manufacture, distribution, and use of methamphetamine in Washington State.

The primary responsibility for oversight of the coalition’s activities is vested in a steering committee composed of members representing each of the disciplines or interests involved with the initiative, as listed below.

  • Office of the Governor

  • Law Enforcement

  • Community Mobilization and Education

  • Treatment

  • Department of Ecology

  • Department of Health

The Pierce County Alliance serves as the fiscal agent for the initiative and Terree Schmidt-Whelan, Ph.D., the Executive Director of the Alliance, serves as the chair of the steering committee.
