Thousands of people across New Mexico learned about the dangers of crystal methamphetamine on Thursday as "Crystal Darkness" aired on five Albuquerque-area television stations.

The program is a public-service documentary designed to educate and prevent children from using the drug crystal methamphetamine.

While thousands watched the emotional and stirring documentary in the comfort of their living room, approximately 50 people got a first-hand experience by watching it at the Destiny Center in Rio Rancho.Recovered methamphetamine addicts Darlene Vigil and Zach Baca, who were featured in the film, spoke to the crowd about their personal experiences with the drug.

Both left the crowd with one resounding message: ìDonít do meth.î

Vigil, 26, grew up in Las Vegas, Nev. and said she first tried methamphetamine at 14. She wanted to be a part of the scene and became hooked right of way.

ìIt was like the devil put a handcuff around my ankle and was holding me down,î Vigil said. ìYou become a prisoner to the drug. Donít try it. Once you take that first hit, you are opening the door for the devil to steal your soul.î
