Methamphetamine Abuse in Idaho

DEA Assessment:

Crystal Methamphetamine (ice) is a widely abused drug in Idaho, and continues to impact all elements of society. Idaho has experienced a dramatic decrease in methamphetamine labs as Mexican organizations turn to methamphetamine produced in Mexico.

Mexican drug trafficking organizations involved in the trafficking of methamphetamine, marijuana and cocaine are the greatest threat to the state. (1)

Methamphetamine Use among High School Students:

3.9% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life. (2)

Drug Offenses:

In 2007 there were 50 meth-related arrests; 71.4% of all drug cases in ID. (1)

There was 6.2 kg of methamphetamine seized in 2010. (3)

Lab Incidents:

There were 9 lab incidents in 2010. (4)

There were 2children endangered by meth labs in 2010. (5)

Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse: (6)

1,496 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2009;

22.8% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.
