Methamphetamine Abuse in Wyoming

DEA Assessment:

In recent years, methamphetamine has emerged as the illicit drug of choice in Wyoming and is the most significant drug threat in the state. Methamphetamine abuse is of great concern to Wyoming law enforcement due to its correlation with violent crime, domestic violence and child abuse.

Mexican poly-drug trafficking organizations dominate the distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana in Wyoming. Local traffickers are supplied by distributors in Colorado, the Southwest Border states and Mexico. (1)

Methamphetamine Use among High School Students:

4.9% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life. (2)

Drug Offenses:

In 2006 there were 76 meth-related arrests; 52.4% of all drug cases in WY. (1)

There was 4.7 kg of methamphetamine seized in 2010. (3)

Lab Incidents:

There were 5 lab incidents in 2010. (4)

There were 9 children endangered by meth labs in 2010. (5)

682 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2010;

11.3% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.
