Methamphetamine Abuse in North Dakota

DEA Assessment:

The trafficking and use of methamphetamine is the primary concern for law enforcement and public health officials in North Dakota. Because of the state’s dependence on the agriculture industry, there is a high level of use and availability of anhydrous ammonia, commonly used in the "Birch" methamphetamine manufacturing method. (1)

Methamphetamine Use among High School Students:

3.4% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life. (2)

Drug Offenses:

In 2007 there were 58 meth-related arrests; 81.7% of all drug cases in ND. (1)

There was 0.0 kg of methamphetamine seized in 2010. (3)

Lab Incidents:

There were 8 lab incidents in 2010. (4)

There were 2 children endangered by meth labs in 2010. (5)

Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse: (6)

135 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2010;

5.7% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.
