Methamphetamine Abuse in Arkansas

DEA Assessment:

Methamphetamine is the primary drug of concern in Arkansas. The state is encountering locally produced methamphetamine as well as imported methamphetamine produced in Mexico. Not only does the state’s rural landscape provide an ideal setting for illicit manufacturing, but the wide availability of precursor chemicals also contributes to the ease of manufacturing methamphetamine. Methamphetamine Use among High School Students (2009):

6.0% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life. (2)

Drug Offenses:

In 2006 there were 55 meth-related arrests (32.7% of all drug cases in AR). (1)

There were 10.9 kg of methamphetamine seized in 2010. (3)

Lab Incidents:

There were 482 lab incidents in 2010. (4)

There were 91 children affected and 2 injured by the production of meth in 2010. (5)

Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse: (6)

4,037 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2009;

46.9% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.
