Methamphetamine Abuse in Mississippi
DEA Assessment:
Methamphetamine is the second most serious drug threat in Mississippi due to its increasing availability, low cost, rapid growth of abuse and its threat to human life and the environment.
Caucasian independent groups are the primary producers of methamphetamine manufactured in Mississippi, although African American independent groups are becoming involved in the distribution of methamphetamine. (1)
Methamphetamine Use among High School Students:
2.8% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life. (2)
Drug Offenses:
In 2007 there were 45 meth-related drug cases; 23.2% of Drug cases in MS. (1)
There was 3.9 kg of methamphetamine seized in 2010. (3)
Lab Incidents:
There were 698 lab incidents in 2010. (4)
There were 157 children endangered by meth labs in 2010. (5)
Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse: (6)
425 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2009;
5.3% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.

Legislation:
Has made all pseudoephedrine products, such as Sudafed-D and Claritin-D, a prescription-only drug, the strictest law to date. (7)
