Methamphetamine Abuse in Georgia
DEA Assessment:
Methamphetamine abuse continues to be a premier threat throughout the state. (1)
Methamphetamine Use among High School Students:
4.6% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life. (2)
Drug Offenses:
There were 3,000 Meth-related Arrests in 2009.
There was 64.3 kg of methamphetamine seized in 2010. (3)
Lab Incidents:
There were 152 lab incidents in 2010. (4)
There were 22 children endangered by meth labs in 2010. (5)

Legislation:
Exempt Schedule V; POS Restriction: Quantity, Packaging; Tracking Law in Legislature. (6)
SB 93
"Pseudoephedrine as an exempt over-the-counter (OTC) Schedule V controlled substance distributed in the same manner as set forth in Code Section 16-13-29.2; provided, however, that such exemption shall take effect immediately and shall not require rulemaking by the State Board of Pharmacy; provided, further, that wholesale drug distributors located within this state and licensed by the State Board of Pharmacy and which are registered and regulated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) shall not be subject to any board requirements for controlled substances for the storage, reporting, recordkeeping, or physical security of drug products containing pseudoephedrine which are more stringent than those included in DEA regulations."
This bill essentially just moved PSE behind the pharmacy counter and mandates that all authorized vendors must be a certified pharmacy so that convenience stores can no longer sell PSE. The bill was signed into law on May 13, 2011 (7)
