Methamphetamine Abuse in Ohio

DEA Assessment:

Most areas of the state reported continuing decreases in methamphetamine availability and abuse. Methamphetamine use continues to be more commonly reported among whites between 20 and 30 years of age.20 Purity levels range from 7.4% to 100%.

Mexican criminal groups are now the largest supplier of methamphetamine in the state, but local independent criminal groups and outlaw motorcycle gangs are also responsible for transporting and distributing methamphetamine throughout Ohio. (1)

Drug Offenses:

In 2006 there were 39 meth-related arrests; 5.8% of all drug cases in OH. (1)

There was 35.9 kg of methamphetamine seized in 2010. (2)

Lab Incidents:

There were 233 lab incidents in 2010. (3)

There were 71 children endangered by meth labs in 2010. (4)

Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse: (5)

568 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2009;

0.6% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.
