Methamphetamine Abuse in North Carolina

DEA Assessment:

Although domestic methamphetamine production is waning in North Carolina, Mexican-manufactured methamphetamine, primarily in the crystalline form (Ice), is readily available in the large metropolitan centers of the state, and increasingly in rural communities elsewhere. (1)

Methamphetamine Use among High School Students:

3.4% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life. (2)

Drug Offenses:

In 2008 there were 149 meth-related arrests; 22.2% of all total drug cases in NC. (1)

There was 4.7 kg of methamphetamine seized in 2010. (3)

Lab Incidents:

There were 234 lab incidents in 2010. (4)

There were 61 children endangered by meth labs in 2010. (5)

Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse: (6)

667 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2010;

1.4% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.
