Methamphetamine Use among High School Students:

6.2% of students reported using methamphetamine one or more times during their life. (1)

Drug Offenses:

In 2007 there were 36 federally sentenced drug offenders; 7.8% of total drug-offenders in MI. (2)

There was 0.1 kg of methamphetamine seized in 2010 and a total of 10.0 kg seized between 2006 through 2010. (3)

Lab Incidents:

There were 671 lab incidents in 2010. (4)

There were 107 children endangered by meth labs in 2010. (5)

Treatment Admissions for Methamphetamine Abuse: (6)

670 treatment admissions for methamphetamine/amphetamine abuse in 2009;

1.0% of all drug abuse treatment admissions.

Sec. 7340. (1) A person shall not sell, distribute, deliver, or otherwise furnish a product that contains any compound, mixture, or preparation containing any detectable quantity of ephedrine or pseudoephedrine, a salt or optical isomer of ephedrine or pseudoephedrine, or a salt of an optical isomer of ephedrine or pseudoephedrine to an individual if the sale is transacted through use of the mail, internet, telephone, or other electronic means.

The remainder of the statute explains that due to this provision, PSE becomes prescription only.

On May 19, 2011, the bill was referred to the Health Committee and is not expected to pass. (8)
